I think what is the most important that the children should not feel your fear and worry if they need glasses later. My son became myopic when he was 7, doubled in dioptre in a year. Than we started to do vision therapy at home, based on the Bates method, I have spent months reading about eyes, parts of the eyes, etc. Than we expended the vision training with the tibetian eye chart. Over the past 1.5 year there was no myopia progression at all. But I am not myopic, my husband has low myopia. Than my 2 year old daughter is already myopic with a high astigmatism.

Shabana,

its very sad, the doctors said it IS hereditary.
However, with special care, the 'degree' will not be as severe...

Just do what's recommended all along...
take a rest, bring them out, when they had spent 30mins doing near work, or watching TV.
In fact, I used a very effective way of teaching my boys, how terrible watching TV programs can be...
you can read the post over here:
http://allaboutyourchild.com/preschool/taking-care-of-kids-eyes

This lesson was taught ONCE.... And they remember till now....
So when its TV time, they have much self-control...
*smile*
Hope it works for your children (to-come)....

Hi Angelina, I completely understand your feelings. Even I am myopic with very bad eyesight. I am planning to have kids now and I have the same fear in my mind, what if my kids have large glasses on their tiny ears and nose? Please let me know if you have come across any measures to protect child's vision with some care before or after pregnancy? I hope and pray that eyesight shouldnt be herditory and every mother like us should have beautiful kids with bright clear eyes, Amen!

Hi,

I am 22 and my eyesight is terrible. I am -14 in each eye with astigmatism. I still can get contacts. I cannot read a book unless it is about 2 inches in front of my face. So yes, they still make contacts for terrible eyesight.
