Hi Angeline
At the moment, becos I'm a SAHM and living on one income, my K1 child sometimes gets to go on field trips that cost S$12, but sometimes I say no to those that are $24 - like the one to Asian Civilisation Museum in Nov. I feel it is ok for me to explain to my child, oh, that is too expensive - and we have just been there recently when the Museums had Free Museum Day. I feel that it is never too early to teach a child about choices and budgeting. And when my child doesn't go for the field trip, she is home with me, and we play!

But when I was working (double income) - my kids went for all the field trips becos 1) we need not watch our budget 2)I wud be at work and not be able to spend the day with my kid (so it was better they go for the field trip than stay home with the maid).
I read your story and profile - I am sure yr life experiences has made you a very strong person - a survivor. My mom played mahjong too, since I was a kid, and we had some problems but it did not get as bad as yours. Given all that you had to go thru growing up, I think you coped and adjusted remarkably well. You're amazing, and yr kids are lucky to have an amazing mom like you.

Sorry to hear about what your dad did...
I think you are a fantastic mom, everything you do, you think of your kids first.
I think I am a very 'sticky' mom. If I can follow my kids, I will.

Yes! My kids had gone to all their kindy's outings. Even those that we've been a few times. I think the experience and the memory of going with school and friends are so different from going with family. Something that can't be measured monetarily. So, as long as it's affordable, even if it's pricier than what you can get otherwise, it's a go with me. And since you're unlikely to go on your own, the discount shouldn't be a factor at all. Afterall, the discount is only of value if you actually make use of it.

I think many of us are trying to 'give' what we did not receive when we are young. maybe you should just close one eyes and let yourself and Bin-Bin have fun too?
