I like to be UGLY!
Child April 5th, 2010I have no comments on children born deformed or ‘ugly’. But I have everything in the world to say when my child CHOOSE TO BE UGLY! *faint*
To me, Keatkeat has one of the most charming smile. The shape of his lips, the size of his mouth, the nicely spaced set of teeth and his lovely dimples. His smile has melted my heart a thousand times.
Just look at the photo (left). Isn’t it nice?
But since last year, he started to test the elasticity of his facial muscles. You would not see any of the ‘ugly‘ shots here, because I don’t like any and deleted them right after the flash went off. What you see in this blog is often the ‘2nd take’.
Allan and I: “Keatkeat, why do you like to smile this way? (the ugly way)”
Keatkeat: “I like it. Its funny.”
Allan and I: “Its not funny, its ugly. Please give us the handsome smile.”
We showed him the difference of the ‘ugly‘ shot and the ‘handsome‘ shot. He giggled at the ‘ugly‘ shot and responded: “I like to be ugly.”
*eyes rolled*
On the day of the photo shot for his travel pass. I WARNED HIM! I told him to smile the ‘handsome‘ way.
And he REFUSED!
When I asked him after school: “So Keatkeat, did you smile nicely for your travel pass?”
Keatkeat: “No. I smile the ‘ugly’ way.”
Me: “Keatkeat, please DO NOT joke with me. Seriously, did you smile nicely?”
Keatkeat: “No. I like to smile MY way.”
My heart pounded fast. I waited for 2 weeks to witness the disaster!
This was the result which blew our heads off!!!!
Allan screamed at him!
I was too angry to even shout at him!
My sis told him it was ‘ugly‘ too!
Yet, he thinks its funny to smile this way.
I told him sternly: “Yes, funny indeed! You’ll have to look at this UGLY face for the next 6 years! Now that is funny!!!”
And I walked off.
6 years!!!! This ‘ugly‘ photo has to stay for 6 years! And my child CHOSE to do this on PURPOSE!!
Won’t you be pissed?! Allan and I sure were… and I still am!

I think i would be pissed too…
Did he like the photo??
I don’t like my ID photo too. I usually hide my ugly ID photo (even though I smiled prettily :P ) from being exposed to people.

Oh dear ! 6 years. No, he is not ugly but mischevious. That’s what a kid will be at his age. DOn’t be angry. At least he did not put out his tounge, or close his eye or whatever which are uglier.

Hi, i think you can declare it as lost and make a replacement card :) they charge a small fee only so if u cannot stand looking at the photo maybe u can consider this option. Make him pay half the cost as punishment :)

Ryan mami,
“did he like the photo?”
He giggled whenever he looked at it.
I presumed he liked it! *eyes rolled*
But he has stopped giggling over time, we received this on last Thursday.

Keat Keat is so cheeky! I will not change if Kyle did that. I would rather he learn the consequence of his actions.

Anne dear,
the boy in the post is Keatkeat, not BinBin. *giggle*

Angeline,
Hmm..i think kid sometimes just want to do funny thing to make adults happy. Keat must have seen pple laughing at his smile and tot it was good to entertain them. At this age, he does not know the consequence of his act.

LOL this photo of Keatkeat sure tickles me!
I bet he will come to regret it in the coming years, when he reach upper primary perhaps. A little price to pay for choosing to act the opposite way!

lol. He looks really mischievous. I am surprised the person taking the photo did not do a retake. We are in the digital age after all and it could have been easily done if the photo did not turn out nice.

Mumsgather,
that’s exactly what my hubby said too!
but my reply was, its obvious that the photographer only cared about getting the hundreds of Primary 1 children’s photos done, he couldn’t care less if they appeared nice.
*pout*

hahaha This is indeed vy funny. But if MY kids did that, I’d be fuming mad as well. LOL

a parent of my p1 form class did not like the photo of her son’s smart card too as one of his eye was half close so she asked me whether can change the photo. actually you can bring ur own photo to do replacement at the nearby interchange with $8. You may like to do that, as you never know, keat may grow to be conscious of his own look in the card when he grows bigger?

kkf,
Thank you dear. :)
Allan and I are still deciding whether should we leave it, so that he will ‘face the punishment‘ in future. Making him understand that some mischief can cost him more than just a laugh.
Yet, we wonder if we change for him, are we being over-protective? ‘cos if we do that, we are trying to avoid him being laughed at by his peers. Thus, I categorized that as being an over-protective parent.
So We are still deciding….
