Singapore Arts Festival 2008
Child May 24th, 2008This beautiful picture is from Singapore Arts Festival Website.

It was a last minute decision to attend the grand opening of the yearly Singapore Arts Festival yesterday. We saw the news at 6.30pm last evening. There were shots of its rehearsal…then….my boys shouted in unison “FIREWORKS!!!”
Yes they love fireworks. Immediately we jumped onto our feet, bathed the 2 of them and rushed down to Boat Quay (hopefully) before it starts at 8pm. With all the expected peak hour traffic jam, we were lucky to reach there in time.
There were at least 4-5 rows of people, crowding around the perimeter of the Singapore River, with their kids sitting on their shoulders, waiting patiently for the ‘WaterFools’ (theme of this year’s grand opening event) performance to start.
We couldn’t see anything till we climbed on top of the ledge of the OUB Building gripping tightly onto the pole with my left hand while my right was holding onto Keatkeat’s hand.
The width of the ledge was only half the size of my foot, I was a little jerky. Although I could see the ‘fools’ floating on the water quite well after that, it was quite scary to be 1.5m taller all of a sudden.
Allan sacrifices himself by being the ‘safety guard’. He stood in front of the kids, so as to prevent the kids from falling forward. He did not get to see anything except the Fireworks in the sky. That’s father’s love, ya?!
It was really amusing to see mini-floats with trees and cars floating on the water as the ‘clowns’ performed on them. It was a pity, I could not capture any photos because both my hands were occupied.
Anyhow, I’m glad we went, the kids was chatting about the multiple colors flashing in the sky as we leave the place….as parents…we know its all worth it when we could put a smile on their faces.

As I’m typing now, my kids are on their way to Sentosa, Singapore’s very own mini-fun filled island. Hopefully my sister, their ‘occasional nanny’, brings back lots of photographs to share….
So I am enjoying every second, spending time with just me, myself and I! I hardly get such privilege, you know…..*wink*. Hope you have a great Saturday too! Cheers!

Wow, beautiful picture. This is one of the things that I really miss by living out in the country far, far away from everything else. Culture! There’s an understated culture here, a rural culture. But the arts! Fireworks! BIG expression! I envy you your experience. How wonderful…
