I made my Son looked Bad

Child, Parenting

Being thrifty can be a virtue, but being too thrifty can also cause embarrassment at times….

oldThe strap-holder for Keatkeat’s old watch was lost on the very first day of school. Kids! *eyes rolled*

I tried to find a replacement for him, but to no avail. Thus I used a shortened rubber-band to act as the strap-holder.

Few weeks later, the glass dropped out. It was a super lucky day for Keatkeat to be able to find it back.

Allan and I chose to stick it back with Super-Glue. In the end, the ‘vapour’ or ‘acid’ from the glue blurred the glass.

rubbermIt was until KeatKeat remarked that he cannot see the numbers clearly, that I realised there was no use in sticking to my ridiculous-thrifty principles, which was leaning more towards stinginess.

[LEFT] This WAS how Keatkeat’s watch looked like before I finally decided to buy him a replacement.

Yes, my 6 year old had been wearing this ‘awful’ watch to school for a number of days before he complained…before stingy Mommy finally decided to buy a new $3.50 watch for him [BELOW]:

I like to be UGLY!

Child

I have no comments on children born deformed or ‘ugly’. But I have everything in the world to say when my child CHOOSE TO BE UGLY! *faint*

keatTo me, Keatkeat has one of the most charming smile. The shape of his lips, the size of his mouth, the nicely spaced set of teeth and his lovely dimples. His smile has melted my heart a thousand times.

Just look at the photo (left). Isn’t it nice?

But since last year, he started to test the elasticity of his facial muscles. You would not see any of the ‘ugly‘ shots here, because I don’t like any and deleted them right after the flash went off. What you see in this blog is often the ‘2nd take’.

Allan and I: “Keatkeat, why do you like to smile this way? (the ugly way)”

Keatkeat: “I like it. Its funny.”

Allan and I: “Its not funny, its ugly. Please give us the handsome smile.”

We showed him the difference of the ‘ugly‘ shot and the ‘handsome‘ shot. He giggled at the ‘ugly‘ shot and responded: “I like to be ugly.”

*eyes rolled*

On the day of the photo shot for his travel pass. I WARNED HIM! I told him to smile the ‘handsome‘ way.

And he REFUSED!

When I asked him after school: “So Keatkeat, did you smile nicely for your travel pass?”

Keatkeat: “No. I smile the ‘ugly’ way.”

Me: “Keatkeat, please DO NOT joke with me. Seriously, did you smile nicely?”

Keatkeat: “No. I like to smile MY way.”

My heart pounded fast. I waited for 2 weeks to witness the disaster!

This was the result which blew our heads off!!!!

keat1 Allan screamed at him!

I was too angry to even shout at him!

My sis told him it was ‘ugly‘ too!

Yet, he thinks its funny to smile this way.

I told him sternly: “Yes, funny indeed! You’ll have to look at this UGLY face for the next 6 years! Now that is funny!!!”

And I walked off.

6 years!!!! This ‘ugly‘ photo has to stay for 6 years! And my child CHOSE to do this on PURPOSE!!

Won’t you be pissed?! Allan and I sure were… and I still am!
