Ending is the beginning of another
Child, Parenting, Preschool, School-study November 13th, 2008Yeah! My countdown to the school holidays have ended! Yet its the beginning of another countdown to something else….
Today is the last day of Keatkeat’s Kindergarten 1 life. In less than 2 months time, he will be in K2 and my dear little rooster, Binbin will be in nursery!!! Awesome!
Hence, I’ll be having 2 hours of complete me-time without any guilt that they are in the hands of another who just might not be that willing to take care of them! *laugh*
I seemed like I couldn’t wait to get rid of my boys eh? *laugh* Nah….not so much of that, but all mommies know how precious me-time is, especially those full-time SAHM like me.
Not going to be long winded today, just want to get the point across that I’m so happy that the school holidays are here; meaning everyone get to sleep a couple of hours more! That is superb for sleeping queen like me! *wink* At the same time, I’m looking forward to what is to come in one and half month’s time, where my dear 3year old Binbin leave his toddler-hood and become a pre-kindergartener…Yeah!
Happy School Holidays to all the Kids who are enjoying this relaxing period! Have loads of fun!!! :)

How does the school system work in Singapore? Do all kids go to nursery school at 3 or is it just up to the parents? What age do the kids finish high school?

I can appreciate “me time” when my girls were little and were in preschool…I looked forward to the couple of hours where I go get things done without littles ones under foot….but the time goes by so quickly….my youngest is now 16 and next year will be graduating from High School…..
Holidays….wow…the next holidays for school is the Christmas break….

Melissa,
its never compulsory to get an education in Singapore.
next year, my Binbin will be 4years old (he is 3 now that’s why I say my-3-year-old) and for most parents, they will start sending their kids to nursery when they are 4 years old.
then they will be in kindergarten for 2 years.
thereafter from 7years old to 12years old they will be in Primary School.
and spend another 4-5years (depending on your academic performance) in Secondary School.
after which, the teenager can choose to go to a Polytechnic or Junior College. People who chose J.C. (you need to be damn good to get into one) normally have the intention of furthering their studies, i.e. going to the University.
For Polytechnic students to go University is a little difficult…I graduated from Polytechnic and stopped after that, cos’ I know I could not support myself for University so I didn’t strive as hard when I was a Poly girl. *wink*

This is such a great and important time! I remember those first few hours to myself. The first couple weeks they seemed so long. I could fit so much in two hours. And then they started to go faster and faster. Enjoy them!
