Kids Talk : 3 Most Important People
kids talk July 30th, 2012How can you tell if your child’s brain starts to think like an adult?
During one of the uneventful car ride without Binbin around :
Me : “Keatkeat, who are the 3 most important people in your life?”
Keatkeat: “3 ah?”
Me : “Yes, 3.”
Keatkeat : “Do they have a name?”
Allan : “Of cos! Everyone has a name!”
Keatkeat : “Are they close to me?”
Me : “Yes…(feeling a little surprised and a little disappointed that he is taking such a long time to give the most obvious answers) Keatkeat, don’t think too much, it is a VERY simple question. (maybe simple to me, but not to him *eyes rolled*)”
Keatkeat : “Simple? Oh I know! The President! Is the President one of the 3?”
Allan and I *fainted*
Me : “No!!! Its not the President! (feeling REALLY disappointed and starting to feel a little sad that the 3 of us : his family, his closest ties, did not come to his mind at all!) These 3 people are IMPORTANT TO YOU ONLY! Not to anyone else.”
Keatkeat : “Huh? Me only?”
After more than 3 hours later….
Allan : “You still don’t have the answer to the 3 most important people in YOUR life?”
Keatkeat : “Hhhmmm….Is it a trick question?”
Allan and I : “No!!!”
*faint*
Few minutes later….
He suddenly blurted out : “Oh I know already! Its You, Papa and Binbin. Right?”
FINALLY!!! *super eyes rolled*
Allan and I : “Why did you take so long to give this answer?”
Keatkeat : “I keep thinking that they are famous people.”
*faint*
Maybe deep in the 8 year old’s heart, we are REALLY unimportant. *heart sank*
I just wanted to make sure if its the case with his younger brother, so I took Binbin aside after we fetched him from school that same day.
Me : “Binbin, who are the 3 most important people in your life?”
In less than 1 second, Binbin said : “You, Papa and GorGor lor.”
I smiled, “Thank you.”
Suddenly, he asked, “Or is it the President?”
*faint*
Only then, did I realise that it has to do with age.
The older we get, the more we think, sometimes OVER-think.
There is always this question lingering at the back of the head,
“It CAN’T be so simple. There must be more to it.”
So much so that we start to complicate things, even the simplest things in life….

Totally agree on the over thinking bit – Keat Keat is losing his innocence after spending time in the Spore’s Primary school system :( Sometimes it is the simple things that are more important and we need to highlight that to our kids esp when things in life start getting more complicated for them

This is cute. ^_^
I tried the same question on my Nikole … Without hesitation; she went “mummy, daddy & teachers,”
5min later… She came to me asking “can I say Didi, ah mah, ah gong & yiyi also ? My answer is more then 3…”
Tough to pick just 3… ^_^
