Just Say It!
Health, Parenting, Preschool February 9th, 2009This morning, Allan went to school to collect all the worksheets Keatkeat and Binbin had missed during last week.
Only 10+ students were seen in Keatkeat’s class. The full headcount is 27. Chicken Pox has almost ‘Wiped Out’ the class. *laugh*
After the instructions were given, Teacher P looked at Teacher C, “How should I tell him?”
Allan: “I’m alright. You can just tell me. What is it?”
Teacher P: “Errr… maybe I shouldn’t. When will he be coming back to school?”
Allan: “The M.C. ends next Monday, but I’ll probably let him stay home for another week before bringing him back. What is it that you want to tell me? If it concerns my child, I think I should know.”
Teacher P: “But you are not suppose to know. Errr…. I think I’ll better check with the Principal first (who was not there then). I’m sorry, I can’t tell.”
I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE DO THIS!!!!
IF You have something to say, just say it. If you know you shouldn’t tell me about something, then DON’T EVEN BREATHE A WORD in the first place!
When Allan told me about the conversation he had with the teacher, I picked up the phone and gave the Principal a call immediately.
Me: “Hi Principal, I’m the parent of Cheng Keat in Kindergarten 2. He has been absent from school for a week because of Chicken Pox. Does the school has some kind of arrangement which I should be inform about?”
Principal: “Just make sure you get the doctor to certify that Cheng Keat has completely recovered from Chicken Pox before you bring him back to school. Bring the certificate along with you on the day you bring him to school. That’s all.”
Me: “Is there ANY OTHER SPECIAL arrangements or issues I should know?”
Principal: “No.”
I was unhappy when I hang up the phone. I always believe in the chinese saying: ‘Wu-Feng-Bu-Qi-Lang’ (direct translation: without wind, there will not be wave)
I hate this type of feeling. Knowing that there is something going on and yet I do not know what it is. Its like having a splinter stuck on your palm. You see it staring back at you, yet you can’t get it out. *Urrrgghhh*
Tell me how can I shake off this feeling?

oh I know that feeling alright… if they don’t wanna tell, then don’t say anything in the first place!! oh well, some people are like that…
February 9th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
why did they create the suspense? maybe they watch too much movies..or maybe the teacher feel that the principal should be the one who should say it…anyway, dont bother … for all i know, they r just over cautious… about being contagious i guess.. nothing serious about that..it is good to get at a young age than when they r older..

I hate that kind of feeling too. I wonder if there is any other thing that they are hiding from you. The teacher not professional at all lah. So fed up !! :(

I hope your feeling better now ;)

Go and speak directly to the teacher.
Or let it be.
Weird though. I’d be upset, too, but I’m not sure that that solves anything.
February 9th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
whats that suppose to mean that your not suppose to know! how weird. I would ask them yourself what they meant if you get a chance or say your gonna grass them up lmao!!! … thats tell on you in our talk!!!!

Hmm..I’m just wondering if this have anything to do with that Auntie which you mention in one of your earlier post who was making a hoo haa over the other kid who had chickenpox too
February 9th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
i hate it too and i will drill the person until i get an answer. It’s either u look for the teacher directly and get your reply or you call up the principal and narrate to her about what happened and you want an answer for it.
February 9th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
go down to school personally tomorrow to find out from the principal. talk to her face to face.

I am so sorry to hear of your little one coming down with the Chicken pox but happy his is recovering…as far as the question…if the prinicpal gave you that answer that take it as that being all there is…document it for your purposes the date and time you spoke with the principal…follow their instructions about getting the doctors ok for your son to return to school…..if something else comes up that is related to this issue….deal with it then….don’t worry over something that might not be anything….life is to short to spend it worrying about the “what if’s”

…I thought it was a understood kinda thing, based on what happened with the earlier kid. Doesn’t seem like anything new has been implemented.
February 10th, 2009 at 8:38 am
urrrgghhh!! Fed up!! Call the prinicple and said the teachers’ remarks upset you and you demand to know what is going on. if there is really nothing going on, tell the prinicple to counsel the teachers and ask them NOT to speak in such manners again because as a parent, we do get paranoid and upset.

The teachers and Principal are really unprofessional. They shouldn’t be keeping parents like you in suspense. I also hate that kind of feeling. If “you are not suppose to know” like what the teacher said, then don’t even mention it at all!

The suspense would be killing me as well. I would go to the school personally and tell the principal about the conversation the teacher had with your husband and demand an explanation.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I hate this feeling too! They are so not professional… For me, I would go to the school personally to clarify the matter.
February 13th, 2009 at 12:09 am
understand! and I think the school is very unprofessional in handling this issue.
I hate it when people do this to me and I will try my way to find out the truth….
February 14th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
I would have told the principle what transpired with Allan! That is sooooo wrong of the teachers to do that to you!!!
Sorry, don’t know how to tell you to get past the feeling, I would feel the same way.
Hope everything will be okay.
