You will have your turn
Child, Health, Parenting, Toddler August 20th, 2008After buying the piggy bank for Keatkeat – my little ‘money-magnet’, Binbin has been looking forward to a day he gets his own. Finally his wait is over.
We bought this from Mini Toons at S$3.95, pretty expensive (to me. Ah, me and my retail-stinginess), but his dad decided to go for it.
There were 4 other characters but we chose this because its green, one of Binbin’s favourite colour (for now). There were 3 words written on the back of the Froggy, “Less is More”. Allan and I had the same response when we saw it.
We couldn’t quite understand what does that mean, somehow the phrasing seems funny. It means that by saving a little at a time, eventually, in time to come, you would have saved more, IS that IT???
—————————————————————————–
Time flies. Indeed it does. We have received the notification that Binbin is accepted into the same school as his elder brother next year.
My little rascal is finally going to get his very first school uniform, be alone for more than 30mins without any of us (the familiar faces), start making friends on his own…..just seems so exciting, will he cry for the first few days, I bet he will!
His brother cried for a week, lets see if sticky-Binbin is going to break that record!
——————————————————————————-
I woke up with a bump on my pinky finger a couple of days ago, its still subsiding…
I used to get this almost every now and then when I was a kid and my dad used to have an unusual explanation for it. Now (it was my turn) I’m reciting the same story to my curious kids.
Binbin: “Mommy, what is that?”
Me: “The mosquitoe bit me and left his saliva inside my skin.”
Binbin: *Frown*
I used to burst it with a needle in order to squeeze out the liquid but no longer now, can’t be bothered already I guess, with so much things on hand waiting for me to do, even a few seconds is precious.
But seriously, does any of you know why does this happen? Is it caused by the mosquitoes?
—————————————————————————–
I enjoyed having my ear dug. It used to be something that my dad would do to my sis and I whenever his ears needed to be dug. I like the feeling of the ear-pick massaging the inner skin of my ears more than the thought of having my ears cleaned.
I noticed my boys like that feeling too, ‘cos they are ‘begging’ for their ears to be picked EVERYDAY, so I’ve decided to change the metal ear-pick to a wooded one so that its more gentle on their tender skin.
It has a cute top. The funny thing is, the moment the kids saw it, they shouted in unison, “La Bi Xiao Xin!”
*Laugh* I never saw the resemblance, but now I do!
But seriously, if you really want your ears to be cleaned by a ear-pick, please get the metal type, ‘cos the wooden kind is way too big and too thick. The chances of pushing the ear-wax further into the ear is higher than getting them out!
But then again, I’ve heard many say that it is not necessary to get your ears picked….oh well…so long as my kids are happy, never mind what others say, so long as I’m careful while doing it on their ears, right?

OK, don’t think that’s a mosquito bite, unless your mosquitos are very different from ours. I used to get something like this on my feet and I think the doctor said it was Exema. NOt sure how to spell that.
The less is more thing is a western idea about doing less to yourself, whether using makeup or doing your house up or even in what you drive…going more simple is more classic and is therefore more. Putting it on a piggy bank suggests the exact opposite like, spend more and save less and is a little tongue in cheek. (ironic)
And stop STOP picking your ears. I’ve never heard of using a metal or wooden implement. OK, it’s cultural. We use Q-tips over here which are softish cotton ended swabs. IT was just a couple months ago that I heard of a man cleaning his own ears and went a little too far. His ear was uncomfortable from it. It got a little infected and then he suddenly died from an infection that spread rather quickly to his brain. I’m even considering giving up the cotton swabs. My grandmother always told my mom, “If it’s smaller than your elbow, don’t put it in your ear!” eeks, be careful!

I have never heard of that… “getting your ears dug.” BUT, I do sometimes have an itch that I can only get with a pinky finger and my ear gets cleaned out at the same time – does that count? Do you remember those health commercials years ago that said nothing smaller than your elbow should go inside your ear? :)

The bump will appear when your skin is dry. If it is serious, you may have more than one & once they become harder & dry, it will cause itchy on the affected area. But not to worry after moisturise with hand cream, your skin will be fine.

I got piggy banks for my girls but never get around using it..cos mommy always confiscate whatever its not used…hahaha..
with Keatkeat around, I would think he settle in fine and faster than his brother…gosh, my boy took longer than keatkeat to settle in!
Used to love the metal ear-pick too when I was in my teens..so shiok to see the wax coming out especially in lumps! hahaha…gross right!?

Good idea to start them on the piggy bank :) My kids look forward to having their it full so they can bank in the money.
Each kid react differently. Maybe BinBin will settle in in no time :)
Hmmm…. I have no idea why that happen. Sorry can’t help you…
I usually use cotton bud to clean, for fear of hurting them. But I do remember my parent did it for me when I was young :)

I used to have that little bumps too, but since it will subside after a few days, never bother to find out what it is.I guess it is bitten by some kind of insects, don’t think is mosquito.Unless the mosquito is a mutated one..;P

Hey, my dad used to pick my brother’s and my ears when we were kids. I like that comfy feeling of having my ears picked. Till now, I still dig my ears, and I use the metal type. Hee…. :)
