H1N1 Confirmed

Child, Health, Parenting, Preschool

Received a call from the Polyclinic an hour ago for the test results. Just completed lots of phone calls.

The most important one was to the school. I shocked Keatkeat’s teacher when I broke the news to her:

“Both Cheng Keat and Cheng Bing did the swab test. Upon doing it, the doctor had said that Cheng Keat’s saliva sample was not sufficient, hence the results would not be accurate. Cheng Bing’s sample was sufficient and it has been proven H1N1.

The doctor mentioned that its impossible that the ‘starter’, which is Cheng Keat, did not have the virus. The poor sample was the cause of the negative results. The doctor is very sure that Cheng Keat has H1N1 too, now that Cheng Bing is confirmed.”

The teacher’s reply: “Oh dear. Cheng Keat is one of the last few who is down. Two weeks before he was on MC (medical certificate), there were already students who were away for 10 days and they still came back to school with running nose and cough. They came back just because the MC period was over. So Cheng Keat is definitely not the ‘starter’, but someone else. Someone…. whose parents did not report that its H1N1.

“My boys were lucky because they were the first 5 who went to the polyclinic on those 2 days. Hence they were given the swab test. Each test cost $300, which is fully paid by the government. So I guessed those children who were sick before Cheng Keat probably didn’t get the chance to do the swab or they might have gone to the General Practitional, who obviously would not be paying the $300.”

“Please give us a report for the test results……”

So tomorrow I’ll be going down to the Polyclinic (to collect the report) again for the 4th time in a week!!! Once for Keatkeat, second visit was for Binbin and TODAY I drove Allan down.

Allan’s health had a sudden turn for the worse. Migraine. Fever. Super Sore Throat and Cough that makes him gagged. He does not have appetite to eat. Could hardly walk in a straight line. Has been lying down ever since we came home……

*Deep Breath*

The doctor told me that he could almost 100% confirm that Allan has H1N1 too, even without any test. So 3 confirmed H1N1 in my house and I am still on my feet, still eating my daily never-fail-to-make-me-happy chocolate.

I have survived for 8days…. Whoo-Hoo!!! Will I continue to survive? Or the worse is yet to come?

A war of 3 against 1…..what are the chances of winning?

Tension is Mounting

Child, Health, Parenting

I consider yesterday as the peak of everything. So NO TIME to blog at all. Yet today, my keyboard is making me Bongcus! My right ‘Shift’ key is not working!!!

Imagine how tough it is to type without that key man! My exclamation mark is going ‘1 1 1 1’ instead of ‘!!!!’. *AAArrrggghhhh* I don’t think this will be a long post, ‘cos I might just pick up the keyboard and smash it on the screen! *Arrrghhh* I just did the ‘!’ again! *faint*

Yesterday:-

Allan
The man was losing his cool. “Damn it! Why am I not getting any better yet?!” Then he did the ‘psycho’ thingy to himself “I MUST get well by tomorrow. I MUST get well by tomorrow….”
Chills and terrible cough. He scolds himself at every cough, “!@#% Shut Up! Stop Coughing!”

Keatkeat
Lie on his mattress 80% of the time. Too weak. His diarrhea has not left him. In fact, he is just left with that. Yippee!!! Don’t worry, I have bought 3 packets of ‘super long flying breads’ enough for the 2 of us to use.

Binbin
My heartaches for this little one. His cough is so bad. He CANNOT SLEEP WELL AT ALL! Drove him to the polyclinic. Doctor gave him Tamiflu, the infamous flu medicine for patients younger than 5 years old, which has ‘terrible’ side effects. Took samples of his saliva too. His fever rose to 40.1, hence Bifen (orange coloured) was given.

Me
Tweety birds were flying round my head most of the time….

—————————————————

Today:-

Allan
Just cough. Needed to talk softer to prevent irritating the lungs and the throat. He is up playing ‘our’ (Keatkeat, Binbin and Mine) Facebook games. So this last line pretty much sums up that his ‘psycho-ing’ yesterday worked (in a way). He will not be helping me much ‘cos he MUST get well FULLY by tomorrow, because of his agreement with a home owner this weekend.

Keatkeat
Same. Uncontrollable leaking of watery fluids from the anus, even after medication, which is errrmmmm…. running low already.

Binbin
*Heartpain* Since yesterday, he would lie down on my bed (my ‘smell’ gives him comfort) and fall asleep really quickly. In less than 5 mins, he would start coughing. Big heavy coughs.

He pushed himself to a sit up position like a Japanese woman would. Continues coughing in that position and remembering to cover his mouth all the time, with his eyes shut.

He remained seated and doze off. Fell to his side or face down.

Minutes later, it happened again!!! Over and over again!!! I put him up with pillows support, but he is uncomfortable and it did not help to reduce the tendency to cough either.

To lie, sit up and then slam his face back onto the bed. So many times over, his back must have hurt really badly. *Heartpain*

His fever refused to go below 38.5. His running nose is giving him teary eyes. Oh God! Spare him please….

He dislikes medicine. But he has been cooperative for the first few days. Yesterday, he lost his patience, “Mommy, you said I be good boy, eat medicine and will get well. I eat so many already!!! I still sick. Mommy! You bluff me!” Now, I have become a liar in my son’s eyes. *deep sigh*

So taking medicine is a huge challenge ever since that statement. *!@#$%^*

Me
Tweety birds have flown away, but left some shit on my head (that is if you know what I mean). When my boy cannot sleep, would you think I would be able to?!!!

I am still keeping my cool. Very few words.  Anger is still well kept in the freezer. I need to conserve energy…. I MUST! Remember?!

ITS BEEN 7 DAYS!!!! We went through all this SHIT for 7 days!!! Can we stop now? NOW!!!! I mean NOW!?
