When You Least Expect It
Health April 6th, 2009Last year in July, I mentioned in this post that my FIL was hospitalised because of his gall stones. And the second paragraph was:
“He is back home resting well now, but will be back in the hospital 4-6weeks later to remove the tube which was inserted to enlarge the gall and remove the stone in it as well.”
The doctors took sooooooooo long before they re-admitted him to get the tube removed. Their reason was, it is not something urgent, hence no harm waiting, there isn’t empty beds for him anyway. To my MIL, that’s an excuse. Oh well….
It took almost 9 months of pestering from my MIL before this date was fixed and yes he was on the operating table at 2pm today. Out in 1 hour. Told to lie on those temporary beds till the doctor check on him later. Instead at 5.30pm, the nurse came and said, “You are free to go. No hospital stay for you.”
EVERYONE was shocked to hear this news when Allan informed all his siblings and me. Its NOT a stitch on the finger you know, its an OPERATION!
*Laugh* Later did we know from my FIL that the Doctor DID not slit open his abdomen. He pushed in a pipe from his throat and somehow was able to remove the tube through that. Wow!
Anyhow, my MIL is over the moon and so is my FIL. We were still worried that he would have that long stay in hospital like the previous round and miss my nephew, W.D.’s birthday this Sunday.
Guess our worries are down the drain now! Yippee!

I think your FIL went to day surgery in TTSH is it? That time my hubby went to have an operation on his knee, he could also go back on the same day.

Do you know, my step father just got a new pacemaker. They had to dig into his heart to rip the old one out! And then they sent him on his way and told him to go to the store on his own to buy Tylenol for the pain. INCREDIBLE! Glad your FIL is doing alright.

Glad to hear that the procedure is a simple one. It can be vy taxing to old folks to go thru surgery (the open-you-up type).
