Kids Rock Climbing ~ A Boost To Self-Confidence
Places Kids Love June 29th, 2012
Have your child tried rock climbing before?
If not, you might want to seriously consider letting him or her have a go at this great confidence boosting sport at The Rock Carnival on 21st and 22nd July 2012, if your child’s age is 4 and above.
It was Keatkeat’s and Binbin’s first attempt on rock climbing. Well, they behave like monkeys when they are at home. Always active. *giggle* So I thought they would have no problem conquering the climb, but I was wrong.
Its not the physical strain from the climb which they had to overcome, it was their fear of heights that kept hindering them from going higher. Once again, its proven that psychology determines the actions of a human. If you think you can, YOU CAN!
It was all fun and games when they did the warm ups in the boulder gym. Through every play, the kids are actually being trained on their listening power and obedience, before they head for the ‘real thing‘. Well, in any sports, if rules are not adhered to, it can be dangerous.
Obstacles were created during the warm up climb in the boulder gym to increase the difficulty level…
And when they saw the tall wall, butterflies started fluttering in their little tummies. What I love about my boys is, they still go for it anyway! *thumbs up*
The instructor gave a detailed explanation and did a demo on the big DOs and DON’Ts first, before the eager kids had a go to be ‘spiderman‘ on the high wall.
After paying careful attention, the kids were told to try to reach the ‘Slope‘ level, just for try-out purpose and here’s how they fare on their first try:
Thereafter, the kids were free to climb as high as they want. And after every climb, they were to record their achievement by pasting stickers on their ‘report card‘.
Keatkeat hit the top on his third and fourth try! Whoo-hoo!
And Binbin touched the top of the high wall on his third try but was too tired to go further on his fourth attempt and stopped at the ‘Mountain’ level.
Both boys said the same thing when they reached the top for the very first time, “I Want The Happiest Face!” *laugh* And I had to spot the happiest face sticker for them, as their eyes were constantly washed by jewels of perspiration!
***Just in case you missed out on their name change post, Zac = Keatkeat while Zen = Binbin. This was the blog post on it “Making it Official“
And when it all ended, BEFORE I could even ask them, “Do You Like It?” They asked, “Mummy, WHEN can we come again?” *laugh*
Will your child like rock climbing? My boys sure did!
