The Child’s Level

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE QUESTIONS!!!

Few days ago, I posted one of the more amusing question which my ever inquisitive Keatkeat asked. (See post here)

And Ryan Mami asked (See comments): “Err…wonder how do you explain/relate the answers found in the internet to them??”

Bringing myself down to a child’s level of understanding is a skill which I’m still perfecting. Ever since I joined the child care centre almost 20 years ago, I began to learn and even after I have left the centre, I continued to practise. So here was my ‘kids version’ of the answer.

Me: “Keatkeat what is the difference between a boy and a girl?”

Keatkeat: “Boyboy have gugu-jiao (penis) and girlgirl don’t have.”

Me: “Other than this, what other difference? Do you both have eyes, nose, mouth, face, ears, legs, hands….?”

Keatkeat: “Yes.”

Me: “So since girls have nipples, boys have them too. Because we are all human. Having nipples is just part of what makes up a human body. So even though, you do not have milk in your ne-ne-pok (breast), the nipples are there to prove that you are a human.”

Keatkeat: “Ooorrrhhh… Internet very good hor. Everything also know.”

*wink*

For a 5 year old kid, details are not necessary.
For a 5 year old kid, simplicity is the essence.
So long as the kid is satisfied, your mission is accomplished.
