National Lion Dance Competition 2008
Child September 6th, 2008Many of you know that my ‘3 Boys’ are crazy over Lion Dance.
Ever since the 1st of September, we have been going there almost everyday. We skipped Tuesday and Wednesday because it was raining.
Though it was suppose to end today, because of the rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, the competition was extended for another day, till tomorrow, Sunday 7th September.
Even today, it couldn’t end at 10pm. It started to rain at 8.45pm. All the performers were busy using canvas sheets to cover the huge props…Oh dear, I don’t think the canvas would be of much help…*sigh*
We are indeed nuts. We have been doing this for the 3rd year now.
But if the kids love it, its all worth the effort.
The first day was TERRIBLE for me! Allan wasn’t there. He was with his client. Keatkeat behaved like he was possessed by Alvin in the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks, he was crazy, completely un-tamable, it was like a lion set free from its unforgiving cage.
Not going to talk about the details of that in this post….maybe another day.
The rest of the days, we went with Allan and he found the V.VIP seats.
For those of you who are familiar with the situtation there. You know you could hardly find a chair to sit unless you are there 1&half hour before the start of the programme.
And the event last for about 2&half hours. So if you are ‘unlucky’ you’ll be on your feet or you’ll be tip-toeing (if you are short like me) for the entire show….
With the new-found location, the kids can sit and enjoy the entire show without people blocking their view occasionally and without the need to squeeze with everyone else.
My camera’s night-shots are poor but you could see how crowded it is from this bird’s eye view.
In fact these pictures are rather misleading.
It isn’t that far.
We still can see the details of the lions and the props.
Just how crazy are we over this once-in-a-year event? We called my MIL to inform her that we will not be going over to her house tomorrow; rather we’ll be going to Ngee Ann City at 2pm to watch the Finals all the way till night falls…. *wink*

hahaha. when my son was younger.. he loved lion dances. But as he grew older he got scared of them.. I have no idea why. The last CNY, he hid in the house, behind a curtain when he heard them coming. He’s terrified of KungKeng (that’s what he calls ’em because I refer it as Tung Cheng) LOL!
