Happy 9th Anniversary
Special Moments May 19th, 2009I completed this cross-stitch one month before our wedding 9 years ago. I learned that marriage was very similar to how this handicraft was done.
First it was the searching:
I’ve got to search for the picture, the different fonts, the right font size, the right cloth size to fit everything in…
just like searching for the right partner, the best match.
Second it was the layout:
I’ve got to decide if the picture should be on the left, the right or the center. I’ve got to decide if our names should be on top or bottom or one on each side….
just like marriage, make one wrong step, and you’ll need to un-string everything, leaving ‘marks’ on the cloth, like scars in the heart.
Third it was the colour combination:
I wouldn’t say I did great on the colours. But my favourite colours like ‘Yellow’ just won’t stand out….
just like a couple, it doesn’t mean that what you like always fits the bill. A marriage is about the two of you, sometimes you give, sometimes you receive, it never works one way, its always both.
Fourth it was the stitching:
this was the most important part. ‘Cos one extra ‘X’ could mean a distorted picture or an ugly alphabet, and then it would affect the spacing and how well it would fit into the whole picture….
just like marriage… Marriage is to be MANAGED, not tested. You have to do your calculations right, you have to make the right move, you MUST make the right decision…. before the happy ending can be seen.
Fifth it was the framing:
the cuttings of the double cardboards and the final wooden frame…. these were all done and advised by the professionals…
some of you may not agree with me on this, but I believe it takes more than 2 people to make a marriage work. You need support from friends and family; a powerful thing call fate; an even more superior thing called God’s blessings; horoscope; zodiac signs; bazi; your upbringing verses his/hers….
seriously, NO COUPLE can ever posses EVERYTHING, but the more ‘Bingos’ you have, it helps that much more…
My mom once told me, “You can’t call the man/woman sleeping beside you “My Husband/Wife” till one of you enter the coffin.”
‘Cos anything can happen during the years of marriage. People get divorced for all sorts of reasons….
On this day, I wanna say
“Dearie, I’m so thankful that you chose me; I’m so blessed to be loved by you; Your teases are what I look forward to everyday; Your smile is what I strive to achieve every moment; Your commitment to me, to this family is something that I can never find fault with. Finally, I hope the day we turned to ashes, you and I can still say, “She is my wife / He is my husband”
Happy 9th Anniversary, Dearie!

Wow..simple cross stitch and yet such profound meaning in life. I think it applies not only to marriage but to your whole life as a daughter/daughter in law/mother and next time MIL to your son’s wife. It will carry you for a long long time.
Thanks for sharing and also your mom words of wisdom strike a chord …: )

Janice,
*giggle*
which part were you referring to?
the picture of the bride and groom?
the words/letters?
the cut-out cardboard frame?
or everything as a whole?
