Hort Park reminded me of Jacob Ballas Garden and Botanical Gardens. We had less than an hour to explore the place because we had to rush back to school to fetch my elder son, Keatkeat from his Taekwondo Lesson. Definitely not enough time for photo snapping and play.
Mimicking the Scarecrow Behind Him
My Green-Boy went crazy over this place!
He was going,
“Mommy! Mommy! There’s a Scarecrow!”
“Look Mommy! Worms! Caterpillar! Ants!…”
“Mommy Look! Lady’s Finger!”
“Look here! This flower is so pretty!”
“Mommy Mommy! Birds! Birds! Birds! Quick take photo of me with them, before they fly away!”
*eyes rolled* Can you imagine how busy my eyes were?!
It was a really hot day when we went Hort Park.
Binbin said: “Mommy I know why its called ‘hot’ park, because its very HOT here!”
“Its different spelling dear.” I argued
“But they rhyme!”. He snapped.
*laugh*
There were not many big shady trees, unlike Botanical Gardens or Jacob Ballas Garden. So our walk around the park were not sheltered much.
After playing Restaurant city on Facebook in the past, he found the names of the plants really familiar. It was definitely a place for Binbin to see how the real fruits and vegetables looked like, other than in Jacob Ballas Garden. Want to educate your child on the different types of vegetables and fruits? Try Hort Park.
Within that less-than-one-hour-walk, we found playgrounds and exercise corners. As compared to Jacob Ballas garden’s water play, I think this is less interesting. But for an inquisitive child like Binbin, all new things are interesting things. *smile*
As we moved further into the park, we saw something that Binbin and I love a lot! Butterflies!This Butterfly Garden at Hort Park is like the mini replica of the one at Sentosa. But our hopes of being surrounded by butterflies were dashed when we saw this sign:
We stuck our face against the translucent glass panes to peer in to see the lovely butterflies flying around freely. We saw their cocoons too! As if the heavens pitied us, we saw a butterfly on the floor, outside the enclosed area!
It looked as though it was hurt. It tried to flap its wings once every 5-10 seconds, but it’s legs could hardly leave the ground…. *pout*
Though the park seemed big, it is rather easy to find our way around, because it’s a one way lane. Well, we have yet to go beyond the Butterfly Garden, so we might be wrong.
We were running late to fetch Keatkeat and just when we were brisk-walking back to our car, a ‘resident’ openly bid farewell to us.
We were just 3 feet away from it! It was gorgeous! Too captivating that we spent another 5mins busy snapping shots of it from different angles. Binbin wanted to take a photo with it, but was afraid that it might give him a surprise hug, so he dropped the idea in the end. *giggle*
On the way to the car park, another surprise awaits us. We found this badly maintained aquarium in a ‘secret passage way’. When we were there, the Hort Park staff were busy planting and replanting, cleaning and clearing the entire place, but none was near this fish tank. It was cloudy and full of algae, which reminded me of the cartoon ‘Finding Nemo’, when the fish carried out their escape plan.
No time to lose. We semi-ran towards the car park. Though we were late to fetch Keatkeat, he appeared even later than us at the school gate. *phew*
I know we will be back to explore deeper into Hort Park, but never on a Hot Day again! *wink*
