Clay Me

Child, Handicraft for kids, Preschool, School-study

Over the 2 weeks, Allan have been bringing school work back for my boys. Yesterday was just one of the many assignments Binbin did.

Today I’ll show you one of Keatkeat’s more challenging task brought back from school.

the body parts were joined by toothpicks and a little help from Allan.

I couldn’t find a way to make it stand. What a shame, you can’t see IT carrying his red backpack.

Pretty Nice eh? That’s Keatkeat in clay-form. *laugh*

Love Me?

Child, Handicraft for kids, Parenting, Toddler

If you do, then you would love this:

artwork

“What’s this?” you asked….

Its good-old-ME! *laugh*

“HUH??!!!” you responded…

Let me help you see better:

The blue lines are my hair, the black circles are my eyes, the white circles are my nostrils and the pink is my mouth! *laugh*

From who? My 3 year old Binbin…. “Mommy! I just made you! So pretty hor?!”

*laugh* How could I say no to that?! *laugh*

(Sorry girls and guys, I know I haven’t been visiting you as much as I normally would… especially after the ‘invigilating-week’, I’ve been really busy… I promise, I’ll starting hopping by your place real soon….)

Handicraft-Medals

Handicraft for kids

It’s handicraft time.

We are going to be Olympic Champions.

(Yes I know Olympic has ended some time ago, but never too late to make their own medals.)

You will need All of these.

Cardboard.

Marker.

Round Container.

Scissors.

Paint.

Paint Brush.

Ribbon.

Scotch Tape.

1st -Put the cardboard on the table.

Use the base of the round container as a guide.

Use the marker to draw 3 circles on the cardboard.

Hold down the round container well so that it doesn’t ‘run’.

This needs some skill, but I think Binbin did quite well.

The blue shirt is Binbin.

Then cut out all the 3 circles.

You will need stronger scissors because cutting cardboard is more difficult than cutting paper.

If you really cannot do it.

Get Mommy or Daddy to help.

Their hand and finger muscles are more developed.

Paint each circle with different colours.

We chose yellow for 1st.

Then pink for 2nd.

And blue for 3rd.

You can choose any colour you like.

But remember try not to choose dark colours, ‘cos it would be hard to see the words when it’s written on it.

Write ‘1st’, ‘2nd’ and ‘3rd’ separately on the 3 circles.

Make sure that the marker you use is of good quality.

Not many markers can write on paint.

Try to write the words in the middle of the circle.

This is the time to ‘test’ your ‘estimation-judgment’.

Then grab the roll of ribbons.

Mommy loves to wrap presents and do handicrafts.

So she has lots of ribbons and stuff.

We are lucky to be able to get Gold ribbon for our medals.

Which make it look really nice as it reflects the light.

It glows.

*smile*

Unroll the ribbon over your neck to measure the length. Stop around the tummy area, so that the loop is long enough to go through the head.

Turn the circle over.

Stick the ribbon onto the circle.

TAKE NOTE:

Make sure that the word (i.e. 1st/2nd/3rd) should be facing ‘upwards’ when its hung on the neck, before sticking the ribbon down.

If you stick it down blindly, then you may be hanging the medal with the words upside-down. *laugh*

And here are the winners!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Child, Handicraft for kids, Parenting

Happy Mother’s Day to All Mommies out there!!!

These are the 2 Mother’s Day gifts I’ve got from Keatkeat so far. The one on the left is this year’s present. But I prefer the one he gave when he was in Nursery, the flower on the right….looks like there’s more involvement in the artwork.

mothers-day.JPG

Going over to my MIL’s place now, (its the usual Sunday practice anyway) to celebrate Mother’s Day with the other 3 mothers…(MIL and 2 sis-in-laws).

Short post but my heart goes out to all wonderful mommies, have a great day….ohhh…drop that vacuum cleaner please and go enjoy yourself, won’t you, just for today, at least! Try to smile EVEN IF that little figure is almost driving you to tears with his/her tantrums…

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

Easter Bunny

Child, Handicraft for kids, Parenting, Preschool

Love to do handicraft with kids. The sense of satisfaction lingers on their faces as they hold up their masterpiece and show it to everyone in the family. Its also a great way to boost their self-confidence. This Easter Bunny is an easy one. My 2-year-old could do this too, errr…that is with a little help from me towards the ending part.

Get a square handkerchief or towel.

Fold into a triangular shape.

Fold the corner up as shown.

Bring the bottom up Half-way.

Fold up the bottom again to form a long strip.

Turn over.

Bring up one end of the sides as shown.

Do the same for the other end. Make sure that both meets in the center.

Fold it up by bringing the sides together.

Use a rubber band to tie the sides together.

Tie a ribbon to cover up the ‘ugly’ rubber band.

Draw 2 eyes on a piece of paper, cut them out and stick them on the Easter Bunny. There you have it. Easy?

Look at this 3-year-old’s artistic talent! Unbelieveable? Believe it!

Too bad, Allan and I are not talented in this way, so not expecting too much from my 2 little guys in their artwork….Boo-hoo….

Hey, I have no idea why the video doesn’t come on. But I really want you to look at this kid. Here’s the video.

My child says goodbye to year 2007

Child, Handicraft for kids, Parenting, Preschool, Special Moments

At this last hour of year 2007, Keatkeat and I reviewed his progress. From drawing just straight lines, colouring out of the pictures and could not differentiate “b” from “d”, to this very day, when he could draw a non-abstract figure, colour within the given picture and recognise all his letters….Indeed, he has progressed.

He is always eager to put up a new worksheet or handicraft to show his Papa and Mummy. We called this special area “the pride of my child”. This area in the living room is always a motivation for him to want to improve on his motor skills.

Seriously, I do suggest that every child should have this special area. It really acts as an auto driving force in the child for constant improvement.

worksht1.JPG

Indeed he has improved greatly. School will start again in 2 days, no matter how much he has improved, my poor boy is still very far behind his classmates. All his classmates were born in the 1st half of the year and my boy, in November.

Although he is only 4 years old, but he can feel the pressure….

worksht2.JPG

So we took down the worksheets and the artworks which he felt so proud of in the closing hour of 2007, leaving the place blank to welcome his new worksheets and handicrafts of 2008 which he will feel an even greater sense of accomplishment.

worksht3.JPG

My child is ready for the new challenges of the year 2008 as he is no longer in nursery anymore, but a big boy now in Kindergarten 1.

Good Luck, my child, my pride and joy! *muack*

Hereby wishing you and your family many blessings for the year 2008!
